Woman Stabbed by Ex-Husband Dies in Hospital
Today, on May 21, 38-year-old Karine Hakobyan, a resident of Building 2 in the Banavan neighborhood of the Gold Extraction Factory in Ararat city of Ararat province, passed away in the hospital.
According to Shamshyan.com, on May 20, Vaheghn Sargsyan, the head of the investigative division of the Ararat regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, submitted a petition to the court of general jurisdiction of Ararat province to rule a two-month detention as a preventive measure against 42-year-old Gevorg Gevondyan, a resident of Shirak province.
Judge Tatul Poghosyan conducted a closed court hearing and, upon returning from the deliberation room, granted the head of the investigative division's request. Gevorg Gevondyan, against whom a criminal case was initiated under the first part of Article 34-104 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, was detained and transferred to the Armavir correctional facility.
Earlier, it was reported that an emergency incident occurred in Ararat province on May 17. At around 07:50, the Ararat Medical Center notified the Ararat police department that a citizen had been transported with a "penetrating stab wound to the left side of the chest with internal bleeding" and was in critical condition.
The police and investigators clarified that the victim was Karine Hakobyan from Building 2 of the Gold Extraction Factory in Ararat city, who was in the hospital's intensive care unit. The doctors informed the police and investigators that she was unable to provide an explanation regarding the incident. While the doctors were fighting for the victim's life, the police in Ararat province detained Gevorg Gevondyan, a 42-year-old resident of Shirak province, on suspicion of causing serious bodily harm to K. Hakobyan.
The stabbed woman and the man who stabbed her were former spouses.
