‘Bright Armenia’ Rejects Our Proposal to Amend Wording, Makunts States

Yesterday, we presented a proposal to ‘Bright Armenia’ regarding certain wording related to the initiative to convene an extraordinary session of the National Assembly, as we see issues within it, and we wanted to amend it. They rejected our proposal for review. This was stated today, May 21, in a conversation with reporters by Lilit Makunts, the head of the ‘My Step’ faction of the National Assembly, while addressing the initiative by the ‘Bright Armenia’ faction to convene an extraordinary session of the National Assembly to discuss the situation in the Republic of Armenia created as a result of citizens blocking the buildings of the courts based on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement.

“If we hypothetically assume that an extraordinary session could be convened, it cannot occur any sooner than Monday. On Friday, we already have extensive discussions and hearings regarding transitional justice, during which all these issues can be addressed,” Makunts stated, adding that they support serious discussions related to the health of the judiciary system and deep, revolutionary reforms.

“As a result of those discussions, they will materialize in the government's concept. They are extremely important, and moreover, they should not be one-sided but involve the widest possible engagement of society and interested parties,” she noted.

It is worth mentioning that the ‘Bright Armenia’ faction proposed yesterday to convene an extraordinary session to discuss the situation created in the Republic of Armenia due to citizens blocking the buildings of the courts based on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s statement regarding the possibility and prospects for implementing reforms in the judicial system.

It should be noted that starting from the morning of May 20, under Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s directive, citizens blocked all entrances and exits of the Republic's courts. At noon, the Prime Minister held a consultation in the government concerning the situation in the judicial system and stated that it is time to carry out “surgical interventions.”
