Which Judges Should Resign or Be Removed According to Pashinyan

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that it is time to implement surgical interventions in the judicial system.

According to him, this process should be expressed in the following manner.

“All judges operating in Armenia, without exception, must undergo, so to speak, vetting. That is, the public must have complete information about the judge's political connections and background, their property status, the individual and professional characteristics of the judge in their position and their previous activities,” the Prime Minister stated.

He noted that all judges responsible for gross violations of citizens' rights as established by the ECHR should resign, leave, or be removed from their positions.

According to Pashinyan, all judges who know that they cannot be impartial or objective should resign.

“The implementation of transitional justice mechanisms is now a vital necessity for the Republic of Armenia, and we must summarize our work in this direction over the last 7-8 months within 1-2 months,” he said.

The Prime Minister mentioned that there needs to be legislative work in the National Assembly to bring this agenda to life and to truly guarantee an independent judicial system in Armenia.

“If constitutional amendments are necessary for this, we should also take that step; if it needs to be done via a nationwide referendum, we should also pursue such solutions,” Pashinyan said.
