Turkey's Interior Minister Visits Armenian Patriarchate; Announcement Made

Turkey's Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu visited the Armenian Patriarchate of Istanbul on May 13.

According to Istanbul’s Armenian newspaper Agos, religious assembly members were present during the visit, including Archbishop Aram Ateshyan and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Holy Savior Hospital, Petros Shirinoglu.

Additionally, Petros Shirinoglu announced that the co-patriarch, Archbishop Aram Ateshyan, agreed to hold elections for the Patriarch's deputy during the meeting. It has been decided to conduct the deputy elections on June 24.

On April 29 of this year, a decision was made in the religious assembly of the Armenian Patriarchate that there was no need for the election of a deputy and that preparations should be made solely for the elections of the Patriarch.
