Lilit Makunts's Response to Edmon Marukyan

The head of the 'My Step' faction of the National Assembly, Lilit Makunts, made a post on her Facebook page regarding 'Bright Armenia' faction leader Edmon Marukyan's comment about the Governor of Aragatsotn.

Today, Marukyan wrote about how the authorities appointed someone to the position of governor who had participated in protests against the Russian Federation and attempted to burn the country's flag, and then trampled on it.

We present Lilit Makunts's full response below.

“In response to Mr. Marukyan's post regarding Aragatsotn Governor David Gevorgyan's actions during a protest years ago, where he allegedly trampled on the Russian Federation's flag:

  1. Governor David Gevorgyan will provide more details later today regarding what transpired at the protest and whether the flag was indeed burned or trampled.
  2. I want to inform the public that the protest Mr. Marukyan mentions relates to the family of the Avetisyan's, who were killed by Permyakov years ago, and the various protests that followed, which took place in both Gyumri and Yerevan.
  3. Let me remind everyone that not only Mr. Gevorgyan but nearly the entire Armenian nation participated and was involved in various protests following that tragic murder. The emotional state we all shared made each of us participants in the separate protests, including candlelight vigils.
  4. I find it incomprehensible why Mr. Marukyan is addressing this issue now and what his objective is. If the goal is to sow distrust in Armenian-Russian relations, I must disappoint Mr. Marukyan that such efforts are in vain.”
