Detailed Inspections: What Are They Searching For in Opposition Cars and Bags?

The newspaper "Hraparak" reports: "The entry procedures for opposition members of the National Assembly have been tightened. For about a month now, lawmakers entering the National Assembly with their vehicles, including heads of committees, faction leaders, and deputy speakers, are being searched in great detail with special equipment, including checking under and inside the vehicle. Moreover, they are opened to check their trunks.

However, it is noteworthy that since May 8, security staff have also started checking the bags of legislators entering the National Assembly by car. In this regard, Edmon Marukyan, the leader of LHK, has appealed to the Prime Minister, demanding an internal investigation: "Yes, I have appealed to find out whether this special treatment is related to my speeches regarding the security sector, and so on."

"On the 8th, I was stopped in my car, and they checked everything. Then they said, 'Also open your bag for us to check.' I responded that if there is a rule that we can enter the National Assembly with our cars, what is the point of that rule if you have to check the bag? They replied that they were told to check, so they are checking." Marukyan shared that he asked his colleagues in the National Assembly if their bags were also being checked and found out that they were not: "Lilit Makunts, Mane, Mikayel Melkumyan, and others were not subject to bag checks." Only Naira Zohrabyan informed us that her car is being thoroughly checked: "They meticulously check above, below, and inside the car, and they say to also open the trunk."

Details are available in today’s newspaper edition."
