Branches of Hawthorn Trees Were Torn Off by Strong Winds, Closing the Highway

On May 9, at 19:09, the 911 service of Armenia's Ministry of Emergency Situations received a report that branches of hawthorn trees had been torn off and fallen onto the Yerevan-Meghri highway, causing traffic to flow in one direction only. Assistance was needed.

An operational group from the Regional Crisis Management Center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations was dispatched to the scene.

Rescuers collaborated with the staff of 'Yeghegnadzor Road and Road Maintenance' company to remove the fallen branches from kilometers 116-118 of the M-2 highway section Yerevan-Meghri.


On the same day, at 18:50, the 911 service received a report that a tree had fallen due to the wind on Shahumyan Street in Yeghegnadzor, Vayots Dzor province, blocking the road. Rescuers were requested.

A firefighting and rescue unit from the Ministry of Emergency Situations was dispatched to the site.

It was determined that a branch (approximately 12 meters long) had broken off from a hawthorn tree near building number 13 on Shahumyan Street, fallen, and obstructed the road.

Rescuers cut up and removed the tree branches from the roadway.
