What Materials Were Destroyed at the NSS Before the Revolution

The newspaper "Zhoghvorud" reports: "One of the shocking revelations by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during yesterday's press conference has become a topic of broad discussion in political and social circles. According to Pashinyan, before the revolution, the former authorities destroyed materials at the NSS, and an internal investigation is currently underway.

Later, during a question-and-answer session in the National Assembly, Pashinyan elaborated: 'This information has been decided to be made public as there have been numerous inquiries addressed to the government. In particular, questions are arising regarding whether the NSS is unaware of what happened on March 1.' Regarding the materials in question, Pashinyan provided a general response: 'It is clear that they pertain to a wide range of issues, both related to individuals and events.'

'What actions have been taken against opposition figures ... In some cases, fragments remain, and following those fragments, we are registering that the core materials are missing and so on...'

This topic has also been addressed by NSS Director Arthur Vanetsyan, who added, 'The time will come when you will see for yourselves what has been done.' It should be noted that what has occurred is not surprising at all; it was expected that such facts would come to light, given the nature of the former authorities.

It is natural that efforts were made to cover up traces before their departure. After all, during the previous regime, the NSS served as a tool for political persecution. It is only natural that, first and foremost, files related to the events of March 1 and opposition figures during the Republican Party's rule should have vanished from the archives to prevent it from being revealed what their regime was capable of. We would not be surprised if it turns out that materials related to many other high-profile incidents, including the October 27 events and political assassinations during the previous authorities' rule, have also disappeared.'
