Hayk Gevorgyan Awaits Proposals Regarding Ararat Cement; Will It Be Donated?

Member of the "My Step" faction, Hayk Gevorgyan, continues to assert that the Ararat Cement plant was sold for 200,000 drams in 2002. He noted that it concerns a government decision stating that the price of the securities is $200,000.

"In 2002, the plant transitioned to 'Multi Group'. In reality, in 2002, it was sold for $200,000 to the 'Roberto' company, which is registered in Belgium, but its founder is an offshore company. Let them kindly reveal the actual owners, and everything will become clear for you," Gevorgyan stated during a press briefing at the National Assembly.

Referring to Gagik Tsarukyan's statement that he is ready to donate the plant to anyone who claims that it was purchased for $200,000 and can prove it, Gevorgyan said, "Let him decide, I am waiting for proposals."

Hayk Gevorgyan's statements were responded to by Iveta Tonoyan, a member of the Prosperous Armenia faction.

"Our colleague Hayk Gevorgyan has not been entirely honest regarding the presentation of facts," she stated during the National Assembly's press briefing, adding, "I have the contract in hand, and you can see it for yourself. He only mentions the second point, which indicates that $200,000 is allotted for privatization, but he does not mention the subsequent third point, where all other financial issues are addressed, particularly the repayment of $6.866 million, and so on. In total, the entire privatization process cost over $10 million, taking into account the repayment of goods and other expenses, not to mention the later investment programs of 6.2 billion drams," Tonoyan said.

It is worth reminding that during the discussion on the proposed amendments to the Law on State Duties, regarding the cement import duty being set at 22,000 drams, Hayk Gevorgyan announced in his speech that the Ararat Cement plant was acquired for $200,000. In response to the MP, Gagik Tsarukyan mentioned that if this corresponds to reality and the MP can prove it, he is ready to donate the cement plant to him.
