Protests in Tbilisi Against Hydropower Plant Construction; Dozens Injured
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Giorgi Gakharia, has announced that 40 people have been injured in clashes in the Pankisi Gorge, including 20 police officers. Gakharia stated that tensions escalated when local residents began throwing stones at law enforcement vehicles. Among those requiring medical assistance are also journalists.
The issue revolves around attempts to construct a hydropower plant.
Since March 2018, construction has been delayed several times due to protests.
A rally was held on Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi, in front of the Parliament building, in support of the residents protesting in the Pankisi Gorge since yesterday morning. This has been reported by Alik Media.
