Sanitek Struggles: Hakob Karapetyan on Waste Collection Efforts
Aurora News continues to receive photographs from various streets in Yerevan, where waste collection efforts are not being carried out.
To understand why the situation in the waste management sector remains deplorable, Aurora News contacted the press secretary of the Yerevan mayor, Hakob Karapetyan.
“Please direct all photographs sent to Aurora News to me. Of course, it is not the case that the mayor and the municipality are unaware of this situation,” Mr. Karapetyan stated in our conversation.
The mayor's spokesperson shared that a very strange incident occurred recently: “I won't call it sabotage, but under certain circumstances, a tender was canceled that would have allowed the municipality to acquire 24 new garbage trucks and organize the waste collection process properly. Daily discussions are held with Sanitek, but I must note that they are unable to meet the requirements; they lack the resources, the trucks are broken, and they also lack sufficient funds to purchase new vehicles to ensure the city's cleanliness properly.”
Karapetyan considered the issue a top priority and added that the situation is critical. The mayor's spokesperson expressed hope that the problem will be resolved in the coming one to two months, before the hot weather begins.
