Municipal Elections in Occupied Artsvashen: Zhamanak
The newspaper "Zhamanak" reports: "The 'Human Rights Defender' NGO has filed a lawsuit in the Administrative Court, requesting that the Central Electoral Commission be compelled to organize community leader and council elections in the village of Artsvashen. NGO leader Karen Hekimyan states in his application that elections have not been held in this community since 1991, which constitutes a violation of law and rights.
Since 1992, Artsvashen has been under Azerbaijani occupation, and most of the nearly 4500 residents of the village live in the town of Jambarak in the Gegharkunik province. It remains unclear how the CEC can organize elections in a village under Azerbaijani occupation."
