Will Families of Genocide Victims Receive Compensation? Details Revealed
Former Chief Prosecutor Gevorg Kostanyan has been traveling between Strasbourg and Yerevan for about one or two months. It is said that he is engaged in filing claims on behalf of the heirs of our genocide victims living in Armenia and the Diaspora. This information was reported by armdaily.am.
According to the media outlet, it is still unclear whether Kostanyan's initiative is his own or part of an altruistic effort to assist his homeland. Currently, active work is being carried out to prepare claims. This could be a response to Azerbaijan's $50 billion inter-state claim against Armenia.
The media attempted to obtain a comment from Gevorg Kostanyan regarding his visits to Strasbourg and the claims to be submitted; he only confirmed that there is such an intention but promised to address the issue later.
When asked why he had not engaged in filing these claims previously, the former prosecutor explained that he had always held a state position, and the state cannot be involved in the claims being made, and he had no time afterwards. Kostanyan further clarified that they are currently negotiating with international lawyers but declined to name specific individuals.
