Manvel Grigoryan's Defense Team Appeals to National Security Service

Former MP and lieutenant general Manvel Grigoryan's defense team has lodged a request with the National Security Service to initiate a case. This was stated in an interview with Tert.am by Manvel Grigoryan's lawyer Arsen Mkrtchyan, who elaborated that the basis for the application is that the commission which provided a conclusion regarding the compatibility of Manvel Grigoryan's health condition with incarceration is not legally valid.

“The commission is illegitimate; the conclusion is unfounded because the head of the commission was not the Deputy Minister of Health at the time of signing the report in January, having been dismissed from his position by the Prime Minister's order in December of the previous year. It’s the same as if a mechanic, a guard, or a taxi driver signed the conclusion. The prosecuting body, relying on this illegal conclusion, claims that although Manvel Grigoryan's illnesses are compatible with his incarceration, this is not the case. We consider the document cited by the prosecuting body to be meaningless,” he noted in an interview with the media.

Arsen Mkrtchyan added that Manvel Grigoryan is currently at the “Nairi” medical center, and the doctors treating him also believe that his illnesses are not compatible with imprisonment.

It is worth recalling that Manvel Grigoryan is accused of illegally storing weapons and ammunition, embezzling property worth 101 million 232 thousand 917 drams, evading tax payments totaling 1 billion 228 million 176 thousand 342 drams, misusing state funds amounting to 1 billion 225 million 3 thousand 300 drams, and organizing the theft of property worth 37 million 101 thousand 100 drams through extortion.
