Following the Traces of Shooting the Commander

The newspaper 'Hayastan' reports that gunshots were heard in Yerevan on April 5. Around 08:10 AM, the Malatya police department received a report of gunfire in the yard of building 90 on Andranik Street in the South-Western district, with reports of injuries.

Law enforcement found two bullet casings from a firearm on the first floor of the mentioned building.

It was revealed that a resident of that building, Joni Samsonyan, was taken to the 'Astghik' medical center with a gunshot wound to the leg. Samsonyan works as a commander in the N military unit of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia. Furthermore, according to eyewitnesses, the commander himself neutralized the shooter who was later taken to the Malatya police department.

According to information from 'Hayastan', the shooter was the commander's driver. The commander had dismissed his driver, who then decided to take revenge on him. Detailed information shared with 'Hayastan' indicates that the contracted soldier, who has been arrested, mentioned to his close circle that he did not resort to violence because he was fired but was provoked by the commander's behavior. 'He does all sorts of things,' he confessed and added that after being dismissed, he decided to take revenge so that at least someone would restrain the commander's illegal actions.

'Hayastan' tried to clarify with the Investigative Committee of Armenia whether this version is being investigated by law enforcement and what the reason was behind the attempt to kill the commander. In response, the press service informed that there is no such data in the criminal case, and the preliminary investigation is ongoing. It should be noted that a criminal case was initiated under Article 34-104 (attempted murder) and Article 235, Part 1 (illegal possession of arms) of the Criminal Code of Armenia.
