Ministry of Defense Comments on Dispute Between Private and Captain: Tert.am

Mandatory conscript Narek Grigoryan has undergone a health examination as a conscript and has been recognized as fit for military service with limitations according to the requirements of point "z" of clause 7 of the decision No. 404-N of the Government of the Republic of Armenia dated April 12, 2018. Based on this, he was drafted into mandatory military service.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense in response to a query from Tert.am. It is noteworthy that soldier Narek Grigoryan has been subjected to brutal beatings in the army, where he was sent despite already having numerous health issues.

According to information, the serviceman has mental health issues. He was conscripted on January 24 and was already hospitalized from February 10 to 19 at the Kanaz psychiatric hospital, then spent 15 days in the neurology department of Muratzan, after which his treatment continued at the Sisian hospital, where instead of treatment, he was beaten.

A dispute arose between the soldier and Captain Artak Aghabekyan over the issues of "not standing in line properly and the negligence of the commander." The captain initially struck the soldier, slapped him, and then delivered blows to his chest and head, and as of now, there are bruises on the soldier's body, with the left side being entirely weak.

In response to a written inquiry about whether a criminal case has been initiated regarding this incident, and if so, on what grounds, the ministry replied, "Regarding the incident that took place in the military hospital on March 10, 2019, we inform you that materials are being prepared at the Military Police Department of the RA Ministry of Defense in Sisian."
