How LGBT Representatives Obtain Passports
During parliamentary hearings, much was said about the speech of transgender activist Lilith Martirosyan from the podium. Questions arise about how she entered the National Assembly building.
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" learned that Lilith Martirosyan has her passport under that exact name. The procedure for obtaining passports for LGBT representatives (in this case, for transgender individuals) was recently changed in December 2018.
The issue was that previously, members of the LGBT community transitioning from male to female or from female to male had to present a document from a specialized psychiatrist in order to change their passport. This meant that the existence of sexual and psychological deviations was recorded for these individuals.
However, as of December, following the initiative led by Artak Zeynalyan at the Ministry of Justice of Armenia, a change has been implemented, and henceforth, no document is required to confirm the passport and consequently the gender transition.
Lilith Martirosyan presented their victory about this change in December, stating that two individuals have already changed their passports in this manner. It is worth noting that Lilith Martirosyan received her passport during the tenure of the previous authorities.
