The Clergy and Protesters Want to Incense the National Assembly Chamber
A protest is taking place in the yard of the National Assembly, where participants have been demonstrating for over two hours against a transgender individual's speech in parliament. The protesters propose that, with the blessing of the clergy, a ceremony of incense should be held in the National Assembly chamber to "purify the chamber" following the presence of the transgender speaker.
Earlier, the Vice President of the National Assembly, Alen Simonian, met with the protesters and stated that the session was not an assembly of the National Assembly, but rather a hearing dedicated to human rights, which was attended by only 2 members of parliament.
Simonian added that representatives from NGOs were present at the discussion and that no one could have anticipated the course of events or understood that one of the attendees was transgender.
It is worth noting that during the human rights hearings, a transgender individual spoke from the National Assembly podium, after which the moderator, Naira Zohrabyan, lost her composure and expelled the speaker.
