Live: Protest Against Providing a Platform for Transgender Campaigning

A protest is taking place in front of the National Assembly against providing a platform for transgender campaigning. Participants of the protest are urging members of the factions not to grant them opportunities and platforms. According to the protesters, this path will lead to the destruction of state and national values. This was reported by tert.am.

It is worth noting that on April 5, during parliamentary hearings on the theme "National Agenda for Human Rights: Universal Periodic Review by the UN," Lilith Martirosyan, a transgender woman and head of the NGO "Advocacy for Rights," spoke, expressing her happiness that she has the opportunity to speak from the podium of the National Assembly in post-revolutionary Armenia. She called for legislative reforms aimed at ensuring gender equality and human rights.

It should also be recalled that Martirosyan’s speech was met with a response from the Chairwoman of the NA Standing Committee on Human Rights and Public Affairs, Naira Zohrabyan, who regarded it as a disrespect to the committee and the Assembly. Zohrabyan noted that the theme of the hearings was related to judicial reforms, as well as the rights of children and persons with disabilities, while the transgender speech had disrupted the agenda.
