Selling Gas by Weight at Gas Stations is a Result of Ignorance, Economist Says
The new tax code has not yet come into effect, and therefore the provision regarding the transition from measuring the excise tax on gas by cubic meters to kilograms is also not in force. This was stated by Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Central Committee member, economist Armen Grigoryan, in an interview with Tert.am, addressing drivers' complaints about paying 40 percent more for gas at filling stations.
“Some economic operators may have assumed that the law came into effect on April 1, and out of ignorance and misunderstanding, they started calculating the price of gas by kilograms,” the economist said.
It should be noted that the government had decided that gas should be sold by weight, while the excise tax should be calculated by volume.
RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also mentioned that they have received numerous complaints from people regarding the discrepancies in gas volumes at different filling stations. He stated that in order to solve the issue, gas should be sold to consumers by weight, and the relationships in the tax sphere should be regulated by kilograms. The Prime Minister emphasized that there is no increase in excise tax on gas.
