Snow Depth at Aragats Station Reaches 256 cm, 102 cm at Vorotan Pass, 95 cm at Amberd - Surenyans
In the last three days, due to a powerful cyclone, heavy precipitation has been observed in all regions of the republic. This was reported by Gagik Surenyans, head of the Meteorological Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, in a post on his Facebook page.
The post is presented below.
“As of March 31, the amount of precipitation in the republic constitutes approximately 110-150 percent of the monthly norm.
The maximum snow depth at the Aragats high mountain meteorological station is 256 cm, at Vorotan Pass it is 102 cm, at Amberd it is 95 cm, and in mountainous areas, it mainly varies between 20-50 cm.
This is in contrast to last year when there was no snow coverage in all mountainous regions during this time, and the snow cover in the higher mountainous areas was two to three times less.
In the coming five days, the influence of the cyclone will continue in Armenia, albeit with phases of activation and weakening.
The cyclone will be particularly active on April 3rd when precipitation is expected intermittently across the republic, with increased intensity in some areas. On April 1-2 and April 4-6, the precipitation will be relatively shorter in duration, meaning there will also be some sunshine during the daytime.
Air temperatures are expected to rise by about 5-7 degrees on April 2, then decline by the same amount on April 3, and gradually rise by about 5-6 degrees on April 4-6.
We remind farmers that no frost is expected in the Ararat Valley in the upcoming five days.”
