Criminal Responsibility for Cruelty to Animals: New Initiative by Prosperous Armenia

Member of the Prosperous Armenia faction, Naira Zohrabyan, wrote on her Facebook page:

“Soon my colleagues and I will introduce an amendment to the Criminal Code that stipulates criminal responsibility for brutal treatment, torture, mutilation, and killing of animals.

Currently, Article 92 of the Administrative Offenses Code is applicable to such 'brutes', which imposes a fine of 30-50 times the minimum wage if the 'brute' is a physical entity, and 80-100 times the minimum wage if a legal entity. This is unacceptable. Those who torture, mutilate, and kill animals must face criminal responsibility. Very specific responsibility. They should serve time in prison, and our project ensures a prison sentence for such beasts. The project is already prepared, but if there are additional suggestions from various public organizations, particularly from 'Dingo', we are ready to meet and discuss.”
