Fatal Car Accident: One Person Arrested

The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia is conducting an investigation into the circumstances of a fatal car accident that occurred at the beginning of the tunnel at the intersection of Mkhitar Heratsi and Koryun Streets. One person has been arrested.

On March 27, 2019, around 22:30, two vehicles, a "VAZ-2106" and a "Nissan," collided at the entrance of the tunnel. Following the incident, the driver of the Nissan left the accident scene.

As a result of the accident, the driver of the VAZ-2106, born in 1961, and two passengers born in 1964 and 1978 were taken to the "Heratsi" University Hospital with injuries. The 54-year-old female passenger of the VAZ-2106 unfortunately died in the hospital later that same day without regaining consciousness.

Hours later, individuals who were in the Nissan at the time of the accident, born in 2003, 1987, and 1993, also sought medical attention at the "St. Gregory the Illuminator Medical Centre" due to their injuries.

In connection with the incident, on March 28, 2019, a criminal case was initiated at the traffic accident investigation department of the Yerevan investigative administration of the RA Investigative Committee under Part 2 of Article 242 and Article 244 of the RA Criminal Code, with the preliminary investigation assigned to an investigative group.

As a result of urgent investigative actions carried out during the preliminary investigation, several circumstances regarding the accident have been clarified. Information has been obtained indicating that the driver of the Nissan was a man born in 1987, who was in the intensive care unit of the "St. Gregory the Illuminator Medical Centre" for hospitalization. He has been arrested.

To clarify significant circumstances of the criminal case, forensic medical, accident technical, toxicological, and textile fiber examinations have been appointed.

Necessary investigative actions are being taken to ensure a comprehensive, complete, and objective examination of the case.
