Why Konstantin Orbelian was dismissed from his position, according to the ministry

The Ministry of Culture of Armenia has issued a statement regarding the cessation of Konstantin Orbelian's powers as the director of the A. Spendiaryan National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet.

The statement is presented below:

“Based on Article 15, Part 3 of the Law of the Republic of Armenia on State Non-Commercial Organizations, which states that ‘a person appointed to an executive position in a state organization, whether through appointment or election, cannot hold another position or perform paid work, except for scientific, pedagogical, and creative work,’ and since the position of Artistic Director is not considered one of those exceptions, the powers of K. Orbelian as the director of the theater are terminated by the order of the Minister of Culture as of April 1 of this year (the legal grounds for the termination of K. Orbelian's powers are presented here). This decision was made in accordance with the requirements of the law of the Republic of Armenia and is not related to the evaluation of Konstantin Orbelian's activities. He continues to hold the position of Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the A. Spendiaryan National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet.

The ministry expresses gratitude to Maestro Orbelian for his work and dedication during his tenure as director.”

It is worth recalling that it was announced today that Orbelian has been dismissed from his position.
