Konstantin Orbelian to Sue the Ministry of Culture
Konstantin Orbelian, the artistic director and manager of the Aram Khachaturian National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet, stated today in a conversation with journalists that Nazeni Gharibyan has decided that his appointment to the position was not legitimate, meaning she believes the state had no right to appoint him a year and a half ago.
This was in response to the acting Minister of Culture's decision to dismiss him. Orbelian asserted that the Ministry had not informed him of this in advance. “She has been trying for nine months to make me leave. Maybe this is some personal attitude; perhaps she does not like me,” he commented, adding that the collective will decide the future course and how the theater will continue its activities.
“I am here, standing firm. I have put in a lot of effort into the theater's work, and there are many plans ahead. She has not called me. We have received an official notice. I do not intend to establish contact with her; she has expressed her official position,” he stated.
Orbelian noted that they will be taking the matter to court, anticipating a significant trial, as the reasons for his dismissal are unfounded.
