10-Year-Old Boy Found Hanged in Gyumri

A tragic incident occurred in Gyumri today, March 29. A mother discovered her 5th-grade son dead in their home, according to reports from Sputnik Armenia.

The preliminary assumption is that the 10-year-old boy lived with his mother, who works as a nurse at a hospital in Gyumri.

At approximately 4:30 PM today, the mother entered their home and found her son's body with a belt around his neck. There were no signs of violence on the child's body.

Before returning home, he had called his mother, who was at work, to inform her that he had won a chess competition. The boy was a student in the 5th grade at Gyumri’s School No. 24 and was born in 2008.

Emergency medical personnel reported that the child was already deceased by the time they arrived. However, the head of Gyumri's Emergency Medical Services did not confirm the child was hanged.

Instead, this fact was confirmed by Shirak region prosecutor Karen Gabrielyan, who announced that a criminal case has been initiated under Article 110, Part 1 of the Armenian Criminal Code (leading to suicide). An investigation is underway. “Instructions have been given to the investigative body to ascertain all the circumstances of the case and to conduct operational measures,” said Gabrielyan.
