Soldier Ara, killed in Artsakh, was set to be discharged in 100 days
On March 26, a 21-year-old conscript soldier Ara Arakelyan was killed by a fellow serviceman in a military unit located in the northeastern direction of the Artsakh Defense Army. Ara hailed from the Khnapat community in the Askeran region.
According to NEWS.am sources, the fellow serviceman who was arrested on suspicion of murder is also from Hadrut. In an interview with the media, Khnapat community head Samvel Shakhramanyan stated that Ara was the younger of two brothers and was to be discharged in 100 days.
He noted that Ara's father was working abroad and learned about his son's death while in Russia.
It is recalled that on March 26, 2019, around 18:30, in the territory of the former military base of unit N, a criminal case was initiated under part 2 of point 1 of Article 34-104 of the RA Criminal Code regarding the circumstances of the death of conscript Ara Georgi Arakelyan and the injuries of junior sergeant Andranik Komitas Koshkanyan.
During the preliminary investigation of the criminal case, a serviceman was arrested on suspicion of committing a crime under part 2 of point 1 of Article 34-104 of the RA Criminal Code (attempted murder).
