The Person Did Not Linger in the Streets, But Educated Himself: Who is the Hero of Our Time According to the Prime Minister
In Armenia, individuals with high salaries should not be pursued. This refers to the fact that everyone will pay a 20% income tax, which means that for those earning high wages, their taxes will significantly decrease.
Addressing this issue during a session of the National Assembly, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that he does not agree with the notion that reducing income tax creates social problems, as both low and high earners pay the same percentage. According to him, there seems to be an impression that those with high salaries become the enemies of the country.
“Who is that person earning a high salary? That is the person who has gone to university, worked tirelessly from morning till evening, sacrificed sleep, spent time abroad or in Armenia in the status of a hungry student, becoming a highly qualified professional and earning 1-2 million drams. We should not chase after such individuals and say, ‘Hey, how do you earn such a high salary?’ We should present them as… What they say is, the hero of our time, that hero is them. The person has gone ahead, has not lingered in the streets, but has educated himself,” said Pashinyan.
He explained that instead of imposing a 30% tax on the salaries of such people, their behavior should be encouraged, setting them as examples so that others do not ‘linger in the streets and talk politics,’ but instead pursue an education.
