It Is Clearly Specified in the Media Which Rector Is Being Spoken About: Minister on Pashinyan's Statement

In a conversation with journalists at the National Academy of Sciences, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Araik Harutyunyan addressed Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement during yesterday's government meeting, stating that a rector who closes the door on students cannot work.

According to the Minister, it has been very clearly pointed out in the media which rector is being referred to. Notably, the media reported that the comments were directed at Yerevan State University chairman Aram Simonyan, as the university's doors were closed during the April Revolution, preventing students from joining the protests.

When asked how he envisions solving the issue when Aram Simonyan is not planning to resign, the Minister stated, “It is the council that has to resolve such issues; our ministry does not have such powers. The degradation at YSU, I believe, will lead the council to at least begin discussing these processes.”

Incidentally, today, YSU rector Aram Simonyan again addressed this topic in an interview with journalists. He emphasized that the Prime Minister’s statement was not personal and denied that it referred to him. Aram Simonyan stated that he did not close the door on students.
