Emergency Incident in Armavir Region: Disgruntled Villager Attempts Suicide in Cemetery
Today, on March 26, an emergency incident occurred in the Armavir region. At around noon, the police departments of Vagharshapat and Aramavir received reports that a citizen was attempting to take their own life in one of the cemeteries in the Armavir region.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, officers from the Armavir and Vagharshapat police quickly mobilized to address the situation.
The police swiftly identified the citizen’s mobile phone number and initiated discussions to ascertain their location.
Shamshyan reports that while the police chiefs of Armavir and Vagharshapat were determining the citizen's whereabouts, a significant number of police officers began search operations in the administrative areas of Armavir and Vagharshapat, and in nearby villages, searching for the individual.
Eventually, it was revealed that the citizen was 43-year-old Rashid Amoyan, a resident of the village of Lernamerdz in Armavir, who was located following phone negotiations with the police chief of Vagharshapat.
According to G. Shamshyan, Amoyan attempted suicide using pesticide, which was fortunately prevented by the police of Armavir region. The police reported that Amoyan indicated he felt compelled to take such action because in January of this year, the mayor of Vayots Dzor’s Voskahat community, Gagik Sargsyan, sold a portion of their family cemetery without his or his relatives' consent, after which an unknown person buried a relative there.
Amoyan has already filed a complaint against the mayor at the Vagharshapat police station, alleging that he abused his official powers. Materials on the incident are being prepared in the investigative department of the Vagharshapat police.
