Avshar School Principal Hermine Andreasyan Submits Resignation

The principal of Avshar Secondary School in the Ararat region, Hermine Andreasyan, has submitted her resignation. This information was reported by the Ararat regional administration.

In her resignation letter, Hermine Andreasyan explains her decision:

“Dear Mr. Sargsyan, I request to be relieved of my position as the principal of Avshar Secondary School in accordance with this application, and I provide the following explanation for this decision. I, Hermine Andreasyan, was elected as the principal of Avshar Secondary School on March 1 by a vote of 7 in favor and 1 abstention. I won the position by a majority of votes in a properly conducted competition. Over the course of two weeks, despite my experiences, what concerns me most is the infringement of school-age children's right to education. We, as educators, are obliged to ensure equal conditions for the realization of that right.

That is our calling and sacred duty. As a teacher, a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, and as a parent of a child I am carrying within me who will soon be born, I want our children, particularly the children of Avshar Secondary School, to receive education, and most importantly, to receive it in a healthy educational environment, where the private interests of adults are subordinated and do not obstruct the provision of quality education for children. I apologize to all those who perceive this step as a weakness, as I resign having been duly elected as the legitimate principal without violating the rights of any teacher or student teaching at Avshar Secondary School. However, I hope that as current or future parents, each of you will understand my decision. The health of my future child is very important to me, and in the context of the established atmosphere of hatred, my continued tenure in position may pose a danger to their health. I would like to thank all those who have been by my side during this time.”

It is worth noting that since March 12, students at Avshar Secondary School began a strike, demanding the resignation of newly appointed principal Hermine Andreasyan, alongside their parents. They claimed that the principal was elected under threats from the regional governor.
