Video: Yerevan Residents Will No Longer Tolerate Dirty Streets, Says Hayk Marutyan
During a regular working meeting, before addressing agenda items, Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan expressed gratitude to the residents of the capital for their active participation in the nationwide cleanup day.
Addressing the issue of waste management in the city, Mayor Marutyan expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance of the Sanitek company and emphasized that city authorities will no longer tolerate such quality of service.
“Either you carry out the sanitation properly, or the process will revert to the city. This needs to be decided; it can no longer continue this way. If you want to keep the process, it will be under strict supervision and will incur fines and penalties. We have given you time to improve, and the city authorities have done everything to help Sanitek get back on its feet. Either the company takes responsibility and organizes its work properly, or it hands it over to the city to ensure cleanliness. Yerevan residents will no longer tolerate dirty streets,” emphasized the mayor.
The cleaning of storm drains continues in the capital. Sanitek and Veolia Water have been instructed to carry out their work systematically to avoid garbage accumulations on the streets.
Highlighting the importance of properly organizing construction sites, Mayor Marutyan has ordered inspections of all construction sites and measures to bring them into compliance with safety regulations.
In response to reports regarding public transport drivers not adhering to rules, smoking while driving, or talking on their phones, he has ordered to strengthen monitoring in cooperation with the road police.
The ambulance service has been instructed to strictly comply with the requirement to have lights and sirens activated during calls. This makes it easier for other traffic participants to notice and yield to the vehicles.
Speaking about the competitive bidding process for purchases, Hayk Marutyan emphasized that the municipality will be consistent in demanding the quality of work from all companies that have won contracts.
“We will demand compliance with every clause mentioned in the contract. The old practices are no longer acceptable. We will check the quality, and if it does not meet standards, you will be excluded from the process, and, of course, there will be penalties and fines. First, we cannot provide our citizens with substandard products; second, the municipality will no longer be tricked or bypass procedures to turn a blind eye,” emphasized the mayor.
