Child Drowned in Dzoraget Fell into Canyon During Excursion: Harutyunyan

The child who drowned in the canyon in Lori Berd was 15-year-old Alexander Pepanyan, a 10th-grade student from the Stepanavan Secondary School. This was reported by the Minister of Education and Science, Araik Harutyunyan, on his Facebook page.

“I just learned about a tragic incident in Stepanavan: during an excursion, Alexander Pepanyan, a 10th-grade student from the Stepanavan Secondary School, fell into the canyon from a height of 150-200 meters in Lori Berd,” the minister wrote.

I also spoke with the director, who provided details regarding this tragic event. I asked him to convey my condolences to the student’s classmates, teachers, and his parents.

P.S. I urge teachers and parental councils to be attentive when taking students on excursions,” the minister added.

It should be reminded that earlier the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that at 16:45, rescuers found Alexander Pepanyan unconscious at the riverside area adjacent to the fortress of Ashot Yeratzi (no signs of life were present). At 17:15, the ambulance doctor confirmed Alexander Pepanyan's death.
