The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia, Artak Davtyan, has commented on the prospects of the Russian 102nd military base continuing its operations in Gyumri and the future of the strategic partnership between Armenia and Russia.
“The terms of the Russian military base’s presence in Armenia have not changed; they remain the same, meaning that what is written in the agreement signed between the two countries will remain in force. According to this agreement, we will continue our operations,” Davtyan stated in an interview with one of the Russian military magazines.
According to the agreement regarding the 102nd military base, the base will operate on Armenian territory for 49 years, after which the term will be automatically extended every five years.
