People Convicted of Domestic Violence Will Not Be Able to Visit Australia
The Australian authorities are cancelling tourist visas for individuals who have been convicted of domestic violence for more than 12 months. Tourists already in the country face the threat of deportation, according to RIA Novosti.
The issue arises from legislative changes that took effect at the end of February, stipulating that such measures should be applied to citizens convicted of committing domestic violence.
According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, one in six Australian women has experienced physical or sexual violence. More than half of these women, or 54 percent, have suffered violence from their partners.
