No New Elevators Will Be Installed in Yerevan This Year
No new elevators will be installed or replaced in Yerevan for the year 2019 using municipal budget funds, a representative from the Yerevan Municipality stated in response to a query from NEWS.am.
However, the municipality noted that there will be no reduction in the scope or quality of ongoing maintenance work for the elevators, despite planned budget cuts in that area.
Regarding the issue of spare parts, it was indicated that the procurement of spare parts for elevators is conducted as needed. "The overall quantities of spare parts cannot be compared year to year, as each year presents different requirements based on various elevator models, thus creating varying types and quantities of spare parts needed. For example, the Shengavit administrative district requested 29 types of spare parts for the entirety of 2018, and 16 types of spare parts for just the first half of 2019. Therefore, it is not comparable to measure the total quantities or types of 2018 against the first half of 2019," they explained.
When asked whether the procurement of new spare parts would proceed from a single source or through a competitive bidding process, the municipality confirmed that all purchases are made through a competitive process.
It is worth noting that earlier, David Khajakyan, the head of the "Luyc" faction in the Yerevan City Council, made a post on his Facebook page stating, particularly pointing out the situation in the Shengavit administrative district as evidence that the municipality has significantly reduced the volume of spare parts procurement for elevators compared to the previous year. Instead of 24 types of spare parts purchased last year, it is planned to buy 16 types this year. The quantity of each specific spare part has been reduced by about three times. The procurement is expected to be carried out by the same organization as before.
