Video: Armavir Governor on Tense Situation in Arshaluis
A tense situation has arisen in the Arshaluis community of the Armavir region. For about 20 days now, residents have been protesting against the current village head, Zarzand Grigoryan, demanding his resignation.
Today, police have surrounded the town hall building.
To clarify the details, AuroraNews attempted to contact the mayor of Arshaluis but was unsuccessful.
Regarding possible solutions to the situation, AuroraNews spoke with Armavir Governor Hambardzum Matevosyan. We asked Mr. Matevosyan if he would intervene in the events occurring in Arshaluis and what actions should be taken to calm the situation in the village.
The Governor of Armavir noted that he does not have the authority to dismiss the mayor, but he suggested a legal resolution to the situation.
“The only legal solution would be for the mayor to resign, to hold elections in the community, and if desired, he could stand for election again for the mayor's position,” said Mr. Matevosyan.
