Nikol Pashinyan Has Long Been Focused on Our Family: Sedrak Kocharyan
In recent days, there have been rumors that charges have been brought against Sedrak Kocharyan, the eldest son of the second president of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan. There were even talks that he had been arrested.
To clarify the situation, we reached out to Sedrak Kocharyan.
- Mr. Kocharyan, we would like you to confirm or deny the reports regarding the charges against you and the related processes. By the way, why have you not spoken publicly until now?
- I will start with the last question. For years, I have stayed away from public activity for understandable reasons. My public activity during both my father's presidency and afterwards could have been interpreted in various ways, which I had no need to provoke. This is also a matter of temperament and style. But now I need to reassess my approach to prevent attempts to mislead the public, and to let people hear from the other side and draw conclusions.
Given the savage and morally devoid governmental assault against our family that has been ongoing for 10 months, resorting to public means of expression is unavoidable, especially in the context of a high dose of lies and falsifications directed against us.
As for the discussions surrounding me, they are partially true. Yesterday, I received numerous anxious calls from various sources. They were asking whether it is true that I have been arrested. Regarding the detention, the information, as you can see, does not correspond to reality. However, yes, charges have been brought against me. The NSS charged me days ago with a fabricated case involving alleged money laundering and tax evasion, and as a measure of restraint, they have applied a signature not to leave.
In essence, they could have arrested me, which is why such news was circulated.
I do not hide it; what is happening does not particularly surprise me. Nikol Pashinyan has long been focused on our family, going back to my years in journalism. And it intensified from the moment he fled the March 1st square by inciting clashes, leaving those who believed in him at the mercy of fate.
During his years as a member of parliament, he left no opportunity unturned and consistently tried to slander and tarnish our family's reputation and dignity, even when my father had not held any state office for a long time.
According to rumors circulating, during that time, he actively received financial support for his political activities, just as he did during his years of journalism, but not only through ‘schemes’ but also through ‘boxes’ from various individuals and organizations.
The main technology of false and slanderous information about our family, directed by Nikol and his satellites, is very straightforward. Dozens and hundreds of false and misleading information are attached to a few facts that do not contain any legal violations, and presented to the public under a general sauce of lies. A significant portion of the information provided has been false, untrue, or materially exaggerated. Just like it is now.
After the events of April, Nikol, who was appointed Prime Minister, continues to move forward with the same approach.
Unfortunately, the country has been led by a man who is willing to use any means necessary to achieve his dubious goals.
The people's discontent with the previous administrations has essentially been completely capitalized for the sake of one person's personal vendetta.
I am convinced that the people will not forgive the deceit and using the popular movement for narrow personal goals.
Nikol's only tool remains the provision of cheap spectacles, with the goal of maintaining his power at any cost. But people have already started expecting concrete answers and actions.
I have no doubt that time will set everything right.
