Black Ice and Snowstorm: Difficult Roads Exist
The Ministry of Emergency Situations reports that as of February 18 at 21:00, there are closed and difficult-to-pass roads in the Republic of Armenia.
The Vardenyats Pass is closed for all types of vehicles.
Closed are the inter-community roads of the villages of Nigavan, Lusagbyur, Saralanj, Vardenis, Chknagh, Ttujur, Nigavan, and Dzoraglukh in the Aragatsotn Province.
The inter-community roads in the Aparan region of Aragatsotn Province and the villages of Melikgugh, Shenkani, Avshen, and Mirak in the Aragats region are difficult to pass.
There is black ice in some areas of the Sotk-Karabakh and Shirak Province’s Gyumri-Ashotsk roads.
There is a snowstorm at the Vardenyats Pass, in the town of Aparan in Aragatsotn Province, and in the Aragats region.
Drivers are advised to travel exclusively with winter tires.
Regarding Lars
According to information received from the Road Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, the Stepantsminda-Lars road is open to all types of vehicles.
According to information from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation’s North Ossetia Republic, there are 150 trucks accumulated on the Russian side.
Construction Work Underway
Construction work is taking place from km 39 of the Vanadzor-Alaverdi highway to Bagratashen.
Alternative routes for transportation have been established:
For intra-community traffic towards the cities of Alaverdi and Vanadzor and nearby settlements, the route is as follows:
- Vanadzor-Stepanavan-Agarak-Koghes-Aygehart-Odzun-Alaverdi via sections to the Georgia border.

Since June 30, 2018, construction work has been carried out on the 139th km of the Yerevan-Meghri highway, resulting in one side of a 200-meter segment being closed.
