The Pretrial Measure for Armenian Surgeon Detained in Russia Has Been Changed

Thanks to the active efforts of Armenia's ambassador in Russia, Vardan Toghanyan, the pretrial measure for young plastic surgeon Gevorg Stepanyan, who has been in Butyrka prison in Moscow for several months, has been successfully changed. This was reported by Alen Simonyan, Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, on his Facebook page.

“I want to share great news with you. With the efforts of Ambassador Vardan Toghanyan and our embassy, along with the Minister of Health of Armenia, Arsen Torosyan, we have just succeeded in replacing the pretrial measure for our compatriot doctor Gevorg Stepanyan (by signing for his non-exit). I thank all the individuals who supported our compatriot,” he wrote.

Earlier, media outlets reported that in November, Carolina Sargsyan underwent a rhinoplasty at the “Sphera” clinic in Moscow, after which she fell into a coma due to a fractured skull. During the operation, the patient experienced severe bleeding, and the staff at the medical facility, unable to stop it, called for an ambulance. The woman was taken to the hospital, where she was placed in a medically induced coma.

In connection with this case, the director of the “Sphera” plastic surgery clinic, Gulnara Shakhn, and anesthesiologist Lev Khitrin have also been accused and are under house arrest.
