NSS Employees Neutralize 3 Citizens Trying to Circulate Counterfeit Dollars, One Being a Defense Ministry Employee
According to SHAMSHYAN.com, on February 9, officers from the Organized Crime Prevention (6th) Chief Directorate of the Police, utilizing received operational data, apprehended three citizens in Yerevan while they were attempting to circulate counterfeit banknotes.
As reported by photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, the individuals are residents of the Nor-Nork administrative district of Yerevan: 31-year-old Tigran Sargsyan, 25-year-old Gevorg Ghazaryan, and 32-year-old Haik Mkrtchyan. According to G. Shamshyan, they attempted to use a self-service cash machine located on N. Stepanian Street to circulate the counterfeit banknotes, but were neutralized by police at that moment.
They were found in possession of eight $100 banknotes. It was determined on the spot that all of them were counterfeit and issued in 2006.
G. Shamshyan's information indicates that T. Sargsyan and G. Ghazaryan have been arrested, while H. Mkrtchyan has been released on a signature. Materials are being prepared regarding the incident. According to the photojournalist, H. Mkrtchyan is an employee of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia.
