Death Toll from Extreme Cold in the U.S. Reaches 21

Reports indicate that the death toll from anomalous cold weather in certain regions of the United States has reached 21. According to Reuters, the number of fatalities increased by 9 within just one day. All 9 cases occurred in the coldest city, Chicago.

Notably, authorities set fire to the rail lines to prevent disruptions to train services due to the severe cold. The temperature in the area plummeted to a staggering -49 degrees.

In several cities, thousands of flights have been canceled, schools and factories closed, and postal services halted. It is reported that states most affected by the cold include Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Nebraska, and Illinois. New cold records are being set daily in some areas.
