Senior Police Officials Dismissed After Gunshots at Shushi Melo Restaurant
As previously reported, the Chief of Police of Armenia, Valery Osipyan, has dismissed Colonel Aram Hovhannisyan, the head of the Kotayk regional police department, and Hovhannes Martirosyan, the head of the Abovyan police station.
The police released a statement regarding this matter:
“Yesterday we informed that, by the order of the Chief of Police, the heads of the Kotayk regional police department and Abovyan station have been dismissed from their positions.
Personnel movements and changes in the police are a constant process; they are not performed for their own sake and are carried out to address specific service issues in certain areas aimed at increasing the effectiveness of law enforcement activities.
In this case, the dismissal of the officials is also related to a recent high-profile incident in the region, which involved several individuals and, unfortunately, resulted in a fatality.
The police are committed to enhancing preventive measures by all means, including an efficient personnel policy, to eliminate incidents posing public danger.”
