Prime Minister Expresses Stance on Mher Yenokyan's Pardon
In response to the pardon request of Mher Yenokyan, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of 19-year-old medical student Joseph Aghajanyan in July 1996, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has submitted his position to the President of Armenia. This information was provided by the government in response to an inquiry from Aysor.am.
"Considering the discussions surrounding the pardon request presented by Mher Yenokyan, we would like to inform you that all suggestions regarding granting or rejecting the pardon have been acknowledged. The Prime Minister has submitted his position on Mher Yenokyan's pardon request in accordance with the established legal procedures to the President of the Republic," the response stated.
The media outlet also inquired whether Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan plans to meet with Mikhail Aghajanyan, the father of the murdered Joseph Aghajanyan, who has requested a meeting.
"In light of the above, it has been deemed unnecessary to organize a meeting at this stage of the pardon request discussion. Should a new request for a meeting arise, it will be considered further by the Prime Minister's office. At the same time, we would like to inform you that the relatives of Mher Yenokyan have also requested a meeting with the Prime Minister," the government responded.
