Elderly Woman Taken from Hallway to Bedroom at Knifepoint

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has revealed the circumstances surrounding a robbery committed against a resident of MehRADZOR village following extensive investigative actions in the criminal case being conducted by the Kotayk regional investigative department.

According to preliminary data, on January 4, 2019, at around 22:00, two unidentified individuals, intending to steal a large amount of property, unlawfully entered a house in the Kotayk region’s MehRADZOR community wearing masks and assaulted a 1936-born resident of the same house. A third person waited outside to monitor the area with the intent to remove potential obstacles to the robbery.

One of the intruders then took the elderly woman from the hallway to the bedroom, threatening her with a knife and, under the threat of causing harm to her life or health, they stole a substantial sum of 200,000 Russian rubles, various gold jewelry, and fled the scene.

On January 5, 2019, the Kotayk regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee initiated a criminal case under Article 175, Part 2, Points 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. The 82-year-old woman has been recognized as a victim and has been interrogated. A forensic examination has been ordered for her.

The scene has been examined, interviews have been conducted, and directives have been issued to the Hrazdan Police Department. A forensic expert fingerprint examination has been ordered.

During the pre-investigation process, the identities of the alleged perpetrators were established. They are residents of the Kotayk region, born in 1994, 1993, and 1980. Their actions and connections to the victim have been individualised.

Based on sufficient evidence obtained, two of them, aged 24 and 25, have been charged under Article 175, Part 3, Point 1 of the Criminal Code and have been detained as a preventive measure. The 38-year-old man has been interrogated as a suspect, and a signature ensuring he does not leave has been chosen as a preventive measure for him.
