Mher Yeghiazaryan, on Hunger Strike for 44 Days, Passes Away in Nubarashen Penitentiary

Mher Yeghiazaryan, the head of the news website 'Haynews', has died in the Nubarashen penitentiary. He was also the vice president of the 'Armenian Eagles: United Armenia' party.

According to the public relations department of the Penitentiary Service, at approximately 06:15 on January 26, Yeghiazaryan, who was imprisoned under allegations under Article 178, parts 2 and 3, and Article 38-34-312, parts 2 and 3 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, experienced a sudden deterioration in his health. An ambulance was called, and at 06:35, the biological death of the prisoner was recorded.

An investigation has been initiated regarding the incident, and a forensic examination has been appointed.

It should be noted that Mher Yeghiazaryan had been on a hunger strike since December 5, 2018.

Additionally, it was previously revealed, due to operational intelligence measures undertaken by employees of the National Security Service of Armenia, a case of embezzlement with a bribe solicitation pretext was uncovered.

Specifically, it was established that Mher Yeghiazaryan, vice president of the 'Armenian Eagles: United Armenia' party and head of Haynews.am, deceived various citizens of Armenia, including some military personnel, between February 2014 and October 2018. He solicited and received bribes under the pretext of securing employment or promotions, or addressing various other issues, fraudulently stealing amounts ranging from 180 thousand drams to equivalently substantial sums of 4 million 775 thousand drams, or around 10 thousand dollars.

A criminal case was initiated in the Investigative Department of the NSS of Armenia under part 3, point 1 of Article 178, and part 3, point 1 of Article 34-312 of the Criminal Code.
