The One and a Half Hour Meeting Was Not Planned in the Corridors of Davos: Styopa Safaryan

I do not share the conspiracy theories that are voiced in connection with these meetings. This was stated today by Styopa Safaryan, the head of the Armenian Institute of International and Security Affairs, during a conversation with reporters regarding the meeting between Pashinyan and Aliyev.

According to him, these meetings are aimed at reaching agreements to start negotiations on a new page.

“I don't know how long this meeting has been planned, but I agree that a one and a half hour meeting is not organized just like that in the corridors of Davos. I assume that the results of the Memediarov-Mgnatsakanyan meeting were conveyed to the presidents of the two countries. I cannot say what agreements their superiors have given on what details of that meeting, but it is clear that signals have been sent from both sides, and the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Azerbaijan have, in fact, agreed on several issues discussed during that meeting, which, at least regarding the ministers, had been the subject of an agreement. If such an agreement did not exist, in my opinion, a meeting at the level of the heads of state could not have taken place,” noted Safaryan.
