Ruling Team Not Participating in February 17 Local Elections
The newspaper 'Zhamanak' reports: On February 17, local self-government elections will be held in several regions of Armenia. These municipal elections will take place in the provinces of Aragatsotn, Ararat, Armavir, Gegharkunik, Lori, Kotayk, Shirak, Vayots Dzor, and Tavush.
In 14 of the communities, there will be regular elections for the head and council members, while 10 will hold extraordinary elections.
According to the Central Electoral Commission, the candidate nomination process has already begun. In some communities, there are more than four candidates nominated. Interestingly, this time, no representatives from the ruling team are participating in the local elections.
Almost all nominated candidates are independent. There are no candidates from the 'Civil Contract' party. Among the 24 communities, only in 9 has the current mayor decided to run again.
