«Who Needs the Position of Deputy Governor, Especially Three at Once?» - Edmon Marukyan
The leader of the "Enlightened Armenia" faction in the National Assembly, Edmon Marukyan, wrote on his Facebook page:
“Dear colleagues,
Today I have formally addressed the Prime Minister regarding the number of deputy governors and the overall existence of this position.
Specifically, during the formation of a political coalition in 2003, it was decided that the number of governors’ assistants in the regions of the Republic should be increased. Now, instead of one, there are 2-3 deputy governors operating in each region. The governors of Armavir, Lori, Shirak, and Vayots Dzor have 2 each, while the governors of Aragatsotn, Ararat, Gegharkunik, Kotayk, Syunik, and Tavush have 3 deputies (http://www.gov.am/am/regions/). Each of them is served by aides, drivers, and has official vehicles at the expense of the community budget.
In my opinion, there is no justification for increasing the number of deputy governors, and their reduction would significantly save state funds.
Thus, I have proposed to reduce the number of deputy governors along with their staff, leaving a maximum of one deputy governor in each region.”
