Robert Kocharyan Wins Court Case: Court Grants Denial Request
The second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, has fully won the case against "Skizb Media Center" LLC, as the court has granted the plaintiff's request for a denial. This was reported by Kocharyan's defense team.
Thus, the Yerevan City Court of General Jurisdiction, presided by Judge Sargis Yeritsyan, has obliged the news website www.1in.am to publish a denial regarding four articles about Robert Kocharyan, stating that the information contained in those articles is not true and constitutes defamation.
The suit claimed defamation and sought an apology for publishing and disseminating information that tarnished Kocharyan's honor and dignity.
At the same time, the court noted that the denial must be published within two days after the judgment becomes legally binding, around 09:00 in the morning, while the judgment will enter into legal force one month after its publication.
The court partially satisfied the plaintiff’s request for compensation for defamation, awarding 400,000 AMD out of the claimed 2,000,000 AMD.
It is noteworthy that Robert Kocharyan's representative Ani Alaverdyan had filed a suit indicating that in June 2018, "Skizb Media Center" published various articles that defamed the plaintiff's honor and dignity. In particular, on June 7, 2018, articles titled "Grigoryan Testified Against Kocharyan, He May Be Arrested" were published on the company-owned website "www.1in.am," on June 23, 2018, "Kocharyan's Panic, the Second President on the Way to Prison," on June 24, 2018, "The Bloody Symbol of Counter-Revolution: Robert Kocharyan," and on June 28, 2018, "Kocharyan-Sargsyan: Beneficiaries of the Bloody Twenty-Year Period."
The plaintiff's representative stated that the facts presented in the articles do not correspond to reality and requested the court to obligate "Skizb Media Center" LLC to publicly deny the defamatory factual data and to compensate Robert Kocharyan for defamation.
